DIY: 3-Ingredient Balm

Erin's 3 Ingredient Lip Balm | Lifestyle Design | eat.move.rest.

Since I can remember, I've always been on the lookout for the perfect lip balm. It can't be too shiny, slippery, or waxy, and has to be moisturizing and long-lasting, with not too much scent, and won't leave behind an ick-taste in my mouth. There are a lot of requirements! Needless to say, I took it upon myself to make my own, like I do with many of the things I'm super picky about! Plus, the satisfaction is so much greater!

After a bit of trial and error, I came up with the perfect ingredients and proportions to make my ideal balm that actually ended up working great for more than just chapped lips! I also keep some next to my bed for rubbing into my temples and on my wrists for a nice calming effect when it's time to go to sleep! The best part is that the ingredients are all-natural, and there are only 3! It takes no time at all to whip up.

Ingredients:

diy3ingredientbalm
  • 2tbsp Organic Beeswax Pastilles

  • 2tbsp Coconut Oil I prefer Spectrum brand coconut oils, but there are tons of choices out there at different price points!

  • Few drops Essential Oil(s) of choice (I like Lavender and/or Peppermint—the more you add, the stronger the scent)

  • Lip balm tubes and/or tins

Method:

In order to create a double-boiler, I used a small glass mason jar (quarter pint size), and a small pot of water. Bring the pot of water to a boil and then turn off the heat. Scoop the beeswax and coconut oil into the mason jar and set in the hot water until the ingredients are melted. When you have a pure consistency, you can then remove from the water and drop in the essential oils, stir, and pour the liquid quickly into whichever size/type of containers you choose. Allow about 20 minutes for the balm to solidify and cool. Say goodbye to chapped lips and dry skin! As an added bonus, coconut oil is said to have an SPF of about 10, to give your skin a little bit of protection from the sun!
